Helke Ferrie is a medical science writer with a master’s degree in anthropology and prehistoric archaeology. Her special area of interest is human evolutionary biology and the anthropology of disease. She started writing on issues of medicine and environment as a result of a serious illness caused by mercury and pesticide poisoning in the mid-1990’s. Having raised a family of 12 adopted and 3 biological children, she and her physician husband of over 30 years now live with various cats and dogs north of Toronto. Her better half practices psychotherapy (EMDR) and she runs KOS Publishing Inc. dedicated to books on “medicine that works”. She writes monthly for Toronto’s Vitality Magazine and frequently for Alive and US-based publications. “Why eat organic? The single most important health decision you can ever make is to protect your body from the witches’ brew of money-science. Regaining the Garden of Eden is a task to be accomplished and we have the knowledge to re-create that garden.” “The requirements of human biology cannot be made to harmonize with the priorities of a world economy in which pesticides are of central importance.” “We have choices our ancestors never dreamed of. It takes an open mind and a fearless curiosity to benefit from what is available in medicine and the determination to protect that freedom of choice.” “Exploring how to have healthy children is a worthy meditation. They are not only our future, they are also the very incarnation of God’s unfolding imagination. Paradoxically, it is up to us to protect and nurture this mystery.” ISBN 0-9731945-2-9 | PB |
